Horse-hair pots by Pottery Artist Deirdre Hunt

Deirdre's Horse-hair pots are thrown from English porcelain. After being burnished with a stone they are bisque fired.

They are then heated to 1880 degrees at which point the kiln is opened, the pot removed and horse hair touched to the sides.

The horse hair burns into the surface of the pot creating it's own unique pattern. It is believed that this technique was invented by Native Americans.

Pictured left are pots made with the tail combings of Dierdre's 41 year old mare, Senna.
